Char Bazaar

Characters auctioned for coins (any coins: the not-transferable ones are spent first). Bid a limit: you only bid as much as you need to lead, and 10 % of your limit is reserved until someone outbids you. The winner pays when the auction ends and gets the character, which logs in at its home temple.
